to La Jolla Country Day School June 14 – 16

Festival Inspires Young Minds with Award Winning Independent Films

(San Diego) – Young Leaders Film Festival returns to La Jolla Country Day School for Season 2 – June 14,15,16, 2013. The festival is a collaboration between the Country Day Film Program and Moms With Issues®. It was founded in 2012 with the goal of presenting inspirational and entertaining films that engage and inspire young minds. Last year’s festival drew more than 700 people to the three-day event and presented films as well as appearances by filmmakers, directors and producers. 

This year’s event features four acclaimed documentary films and selected shorts.

FRIDAY June 14
6:30 p.m. Opening Night Reception

FEATURED FILM: The Other Dream Team - The incredible story of the 1992 Lithuanian basketball team, whose athletes struggled under Soviet rule, became symbols of Lithuania’s independence movement, and – with help from the Grateful Dead – triumphed at the Barcelona Olympics.

SATURDAY, June 15

1:00 PM – Short Films Program

FEATURED: Asad - An Oscar nominated film - A coming of age fable of a Somali boy as he struggles to survive in his war-torn land. Plus assorted shorts.

4:00 PM

FEATURED FILM: Chasing Ice - Follow National Geographic photographer James Balog across the Arctic as he deploys time-lapse cameras designed for one purpose: to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.

7:00 PM

FEATURED FILM: Shakespeare High - Executive produced by Kevin Spacey, Shakespeare High is an inspiring documentary that follows a diverse group of California high school students as they compete in a Shakespeare Festival unlike any you have ever seen – a unique program that counts many of Hollywood’s biggest stars among its alumni.

SUNDAY, June 16

FEATURED FILM: Chasing Ice - Follow National Geographic photographer James Balog across the Arctic as he deploys time-lapse cameras designed for one purpose: to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.

FEATURED: Inocente - Academy Award Winning documentary shot in San Diego. A personal and vibrant coming of age story about a young artist’s determination never to surrender to the bleakness of her surroundings. Plus YLFF’s “Sunday Night Shorts.”
